Two jackets, one colour rule, no shopping trip. This is the plan for the couple who decided at 6 pm.

1. 0s

   Agree on the rule

   One jacket each, one shared colour underneath, nothing else. If you start discussing themes you have already lost the two minutes.

2. 30s

   Swap the jackets

   The smaller person takes the leather; the taller takes the denim. Oversized-to-fitted is the contrast that makes the photo work. Do not both wear the same fabric.

3. 60s

   Match the base

   Both in black: tee, jeans, boots. This is the whole costume. A black base under two different jackets looks deliberate; anything printed looks like two separate outfits.

4. 120s

   One shared accessory

   A cap on one head, a chain on the other — not both. Then stop. The look is finished, and you still have time to leave.

Why the jacket swap works

Photographs read silhouettes before they read details. Two different jackets on two bodies create two different shapes in the same frame, which is what makes a couple look styled rather than dressed. Matching hoodies do the opposite: same shape, same colour, no contrast.

It also survives the evening. When one of you takes the jacket off, the black base still matches the other person — the look degrades gracefully instead of falling apart.

Is this really a couples costume?

It is a couples look, not a matched costume. The two jackets plus one shared colour read as a pair in photos without either person wearing something they would never wear again.

What if we do not own two jackets?

One jacket is enough: the second person wears an all-black outfit and lets the jacket do the work. The pairing rule is contrast, and a jacket against a plain base is already contrast.

Will this work for a party rather than photos?

Yes — that is the advantage. Both outfits are normal clothes, so you can take the jacket off when the room gets warm and still look dressed.
