Plus size Halloween costumes: start with the measurements

Most costume advice starts with a picture. This page starts with a tape measure, because on a spreadsheet catalogue the photo is the least reliable thing you can buy from.

Listed prices below are what the partner catalogue shows, converted at CNY 7.15 per $1 and checked 2026-10-24. They exclude the agent fee and international shipping — the Deals page shows that maths in full.

The one rule

Buy the shape, not the label.

A listing that says "plus size" tells you nothing about whether it will fit you. A listing with a flat-lay measurement table tells you everything. Every recommendation below is a piece with a forgiving cut and a size run wide enough to actually reach the measurements.

What to measure before you order

MeasurementWhere to take itWhy it decides the fit
Chest / bustAround the fullest point, tape levelThe number the size chart is built on. Add 6–8 cm for a layer.
ShoulderSeam to seam across the backThe first place a coat looks wrong. Too narrow cannot be fixed.
SleeveShoulder seam to wrist, arm slightly bentShort sleeves make a coat look borrowed; long ones swallow the hands.
LengthHigh point of shoulder to hemDecides whether it reads as a coat or a tunic — both are useful, differently.
HipAround the widest point, feet togetherOnly matters for the puffer and the dress-shaped pieces.

Measure a jacket you already own and like, flat on a table, then compare that to the listing's flat measurements. It is faster and more accurate than measuring your body.

Three outerwear routes

What we skip, and why

  • Stretch bodysuits sold as S–XL "one size". They fit nobody well and photograph worse.
  • Anything with a fixed waistband. A costume is worn once; a waistband that digs is a wasted evening.
  • Listings with no flat measurements. If the seller will not publish a size chart, the return is not worth the gamble.

Frequently asked questions

Are these listings actually plus size?

They are unisex outerwear listings with a wide size run, not "plus size" labels. That matters: the fit comes from the size chart, not from a category badge, so always measure a garment you already own and compare it to the chart.

What is the safest plus size Halloween costume?

Outerwear. A coat or a puffer covers the silhouette you already have, layers over anything, and is the least likely piece to arrive too small — as long as you check the shoulder and sleeve measurements.

How much ease should I add over my measurements?

For a Halloween layer over clothes, add 6–8 cm to the chest measurement of the garment compared with your body. Less than that and you cannot wear anything underneath; more and the silhouette disappears.
